EPI - Your Connection for Identity Insights

by Dr. Elliott Schwebach
Excellence in the Psychology of Identity
As an award-winning consultant and researcher in political psychology, I have spent over a decade studying how people think and why they identify how they do. My publications include research on: the psychology of identity formation, identity-based conflict and cooperation, identity and culture, colonial and global identities, and gender identity and sexual health.Altogether, I have helped individuals, small schools, therapists, executives, and international corporations with thousands of employees. My work has helped people better understand their employees, their students and clients, their target audiences, and themselves.Whether you are looking for coaching, market research, political or organizational strategy, or creative consulting, I believe that your project is valuable and deserves accurate, informed, and research-backed support. While we work together, you will get my all.

I also offer retainer agreements, allowing you to access prioritized consulting and services on-demand over a set period of time.
Are you a writer or showrunner working on a project like Beef, Succession, or Mad Men, where authenticity in portraying identity-based issues is essential? Are you marketing a product but struggling to connect with Gen Z, and wondering what might change if you could?Does your nonprofit need a report on the state of research for an identity-based topic? Do you need guidance that can help you get behind the numbers?Do you work with a psychotherapy institute seeking training in best practices for treating racial trauma or navigating multicultural issues in clinical work?
With EPI, you will get research expertise in a multitude of identity-based topics, including the psychology of race, the politics of Tribal affiliation and Native sovereignty, the dynamics of disability, and the social and psychological dimensions of sex.Yet, beyond extensive subject knowledge, I also understand what goes on “behind the scenes” of identity - how it is psychologically experienced and why.To help you unlock solutions, I look to the ways that fundamental human desires and drives play into the identity-based values and conflicts of our modern world. With this understanding, EPI can help you tap into deeper truths.
Selected Work and Awards

NFP
5-Star Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Award from Insurance Business magazine
In 2022, as a consultant for Dr. Valaida Wise Consulting, I oversaw the equity assessment for NFP, an international insurance company with over 7,000 employees, that helped the company win the insurance industry's 2023 5-Star DEI Award. I was sole data analyst for over 120 focus groups and interviews, and was the sole writer and organizational strategist for the report.

American Montessori Society
The 2023 Montessori Innovator Award
In 2022 and 2023, I was a contributor and sole editor for a seventy-page Teacher Training Manual for American Montessori Schools. This manual helped educators learn how to caringly and effectively broach contentious identity-based issues in their curriculum and instruction. For this work, Dr. Valaida Wise Consulting was awarded the 2023 Montessori Innovator Award, and the manual is now being implemented in the school system's over 5,000 schools.

Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association
2025 JAPA New Author Prize
In February 2025, I was awarded the New Author Prize by the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association for my article "Racism, Activity, and Passivity in the Analytic Dyad: A Fanonian Meditation." With this article, I help therapists better respond to racial issues in treatment by dispelling myths that racism and anti-racism are moral stances at heart, or reflective of interpersonal conflicts alone.

Globalization, Displacement, and Psychiatry
Global Histories of trauma
I am the co-editor (with Sanaullah Khan) of a volume entitled Globalization, Displacement, and Psychiatry: Global Histories of Trauma, published by Routledge in 2023, which explores the historical and global production of contemporary identity-based traumas, and the psychiatric challenges that correspond to them. For this volume, I contribute a chapter along with sex and gender theorist Alyson K. Spurgas in which we discuss the production of gender-based traumas within psychiatric and sexual therapy settings.
